Target Audience
I want to design a logo for a production company that aids
in the making of video games called BlueJay Interactive. The target audience I
chose is both men and women aged 14-45 years old as this is the main age range
for gamers. I want to try create a friendly and welcoming logo that also
represents the high quality of games the company can produce. I will take
inspiration from companies such as Nintendo as they are the main competitor.
Logo Development
Throughout the process of designing my logo I wanted to try
to make it welcoming for anyone. The colour blue is a soft, calming colour that
also represents wisdom and most importantly trust. This is one of the reasons I
chose Blue as I want people to see it and feel that they can trust our company
to create great games that are dedicated to pleasing the fan base. Customers
will see the logo on covers of games and during the start-up menu, so this is
important to emphasis.
I then tested different shades of blue/turquoise to see what
would best convey the connotations as well as work well with the rest of the
logo. A dark blue could come across as fierce and dangerous and this is not the
exact tone I would like, and so ultimately I chose a light, turquoise-y blue. I
chose this shade as I thought it best conveyed the friendliness I wanted and
it’s also subtle and blends in nicely with the rest of the logo.
With the font I wanted to show that we are a games company
and help players reach their inner child. I wanted it to be simple and have
personality. The one I went with looks as If it has been written by a child
with a crayon. This was perfect, and exactly how I imagined it to be. It helps
convey what I wanted very well.
Vector & Raster
Vector
& Raster
Raster;
Raster graphics are images that are made up of pixels. It is an array of pixels
of various colours that make up the image. This makes it so that when zooming
into a Raster image, it would get distorted as the image shows. Usually seen in
a gif or Jpeg.
Vector; vector graphics are images made up of paths. These
lines are either straight or curved. The data file for a vector image contains
the points where the paths start and end, how much the paths curve, and the colours
that either border or fill the paths. Vector graphics are also usually saved as
an .eps or an adobe illustrator file.
Because vector graphics are not made of pixels, the images
can be scaled to be very large without losing quality. Raster graphics, on the
other hand, become "blocky," since each pixel increases in size as
the image is made larger. This is why logos and other designs are typically
created in vector format -- the quality will look the same on a business card
as it will on a billboard.
