All of the topics below are all necessary when producing a film or TV show. They all require skills that when come together create a well-rounded product. Primary research is important as you know that any facts or figures are 100% correct and usually personnel tales make for the best stories. Adapting stories can also be well received by most fans of the source material, it also teaches you how to rework already written products and change it to fit certain narrative. Looking a news for inspiration is also an interesting way to source stories as the experiences of others can inspire many people in different ways. Adapting these stories into films is a great way to create unique and also the best way to make a believable film. Finally knowing how to structure a script is incredibly important when producing a television show or film as it allows everyone to be able to read the script and understand what is happening and when. 

How you turned personal experiences into ideas

Similar to taking inspiration from other sources, you can turn your own experiences into moving stories that could relate to viewers. We all go through many experiences within our lives that define who we are in the present day but these events, although they’re personnel, could inspire many other people into achieving their own dreams and ambitions. People born or alive during wars usually have stories that would make for good feature films and so with the permission of the person, a film could be made. Of course during the production, details will be changed to help the narrative stay consistent and becomes an overall well told story.

Adaptations

Similar to looking at the news for ideas, many motion pictures are based on books or other forms of media. This has become very popular within recent years due to comic book movies becoming increasingly popular. These Marvel films are all based off comic books with the same name.

When you adapt a novel or comic it’s important to have good knowledge of the source material so that you can produce the best adaptation for the fans. It’s also good to remember it doesn’t have to be an exact copy, you can play around with scenes and the running order of the story if it helps create a better narrative. You can also add in scenarios that weren’t within the book to build character or world development. If you have the connections, it’d also be a good idea to contact the original writer of the novella you are adapting to make sure you stay faithful to the source.

When we adapted news stories we took out the aspects that interested us the most, for example I chose a story on a rampaging elephant in India, and twist these events to make an interesting story. You would usually include a character that has to overcome an obstacle and would end up in the protagonist learning a valuable lesson. This is the main structure for the majority of films made. 

Looking at the news for ideas

Around the world, weird and wonderful things happen all the time and so when writing the screenplay we looked at the news for inspiration. Real life events are usually the foundation for great stories to be told and so we looked for a story that we could twist and make it our own. The end product however doesn’t need to completely reflect the real life events, the story can merely be inspired by these events. Many mainstream films gain their ideas from events that have happened such as The Wolf on Wall Street which is based on the life of Jordan Belfort.
